Self-introduction
Hello all. My name is Teresa Hoard-Jackson and I am doctoral student in the Gender Studies program at IUB. I specialize in Black feminisms and Black Feminist Health Science Studies. Throughout my brief career in academia, I have valued community knowledge and collective knowledge building. Although "experts" should be compensated and recognized for their hard work and schooling, "laypeople" should not be devalued for their lack of formal knowledge. Instead, both groups should rely on each other's insights to create knowledge that expands to all and makes it accessible physically and with the language that we use. Furthermore, I have also tried to reconcile with the displacement of some previously enslaved African descendants aka Black Americans. Black folks represent and embody the effects of colonization on multiple levels because they are colony within a colony. This precarious position makes it difficult for others to understand how anti-Blackness is a pervasive global phenomenon that continues to complicate how citizenship works for previously enslaved Black folks around the globe.
In other words, I know a lot about gender and how it functions in many capacities especially Black folks in the US. So if you ever need any help, feel free to ask! Alsoooo, I'm not a huge fan of blogging, so I won't be writing on here much.
